Chateau nuit

I love this painting, it has an other-worldly atmosphere. The detailed chateau sitting amongst almost abstract surroundings, floating on a cloud or a sudden appearance (surreal) which says I am only here for a short while - I can read so many things into this painting - wonderful.

Thank you so much for your comments on both of my paintings. This is one of the first that I did before I had to give up painting because I was too busy with work - I just kept adjusting it without any real knowledge of technique. I retrieved it from behind a cupboard about 18 months ago and decided to finish it off by adding the moon and the rising mist.. I have since been taking lessons in order to try to achieve results by design rather than accident! So far, there is only a moderate difference in results I think,but I feel it will pay off eventually when I master the fundamentals.

Keep at it, Artcat, and learn all you can from whatever source. Mastering the fundamentals is important, yes, but it is what drives you to paint that counts...........don't get too hung up on technique, (and don't take too much notice of me...just follow your painting heart!)

Thanks Ruth and Yu Ping, I think I know what you mean about technique(s), although I am keen to master it (them) - I would really like to paint in a much more fluid and looser style. I am new to this site, but I think it is a really great source for learning from others. Thanks for your comments. Any suggestions for improvement will be appreciated.

I like it too. Reminds me of those beautiful moon lit nights. On hot summer nights we used to take our horses out for a ride around the farm, go for walks etc.My memory would have had more shadows, and not quite as bright, but I am in Australia and not familiar with other parts of the world. cheers
