Hi Artkat...thank you for your comments on my squirrel today. Isn't it great to see different styles and techniques here on POL! I do like your work....you are an individualist as this painting shows, and i like it very much.

Thanks Ruth. I am new to this site but I think it is a great resource for learning from others. I am a member of the NT and painted this from a guidebook photograph that caught my eye because I could hardly believe the vivid colours, especially the (predominantly) blue of the water lilies. The original is a little more subtle and detailed than the uploaded image, but I don't know how to improve it at present. I think it is something to do with a greater range of brushstrokes. Thnaks again.

Found them at last, ArtKat. I especially love this one. Following comments about one of my paintings, I would call yours impressionism. Beautiful, and it is all about how a scene makes us feel, not trying to be too photographic, Isn't it? janet

Thanks Janet, I think it may be a mixture of not being skiful enough to render an accurate, photographic image and maybe a bit of artistic licence! I was taken with the brilliance of the colours on a National Trust brochure - they really were as striking as I painted them - but I couldn't capture the immense detail in the picture. AKS

I saw this painting in the art exhibition on Monday night, it stood out with all that vibrant colour and texture. Well done

Very nice, and I prefer art not to be photographic copies. I use a camera if I want a photo. I prefer some artistic licence in art, especially in landscapes etc. I demand realism in equine portraits of identified horses, for example my drawing of Vo Rogue etc. If the artwork is about any horse in general that is entirely different, but they should be technically correct on bone structure and muscles etc,. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artistic_license
