Anni, what a good idea, very inventive of you, and a most effective result!! Well done you!

Hello Ruth, I have a fondness for owls. This cd was scanned instead of being photographed, seems to get a clearer image. Gesso the cd first and then used acrlic paints. Glad you like it. How is your artwork going? ~ Kind regards Anni

I recognised this as your style immediately Anni. What a brilliant idea! I have guests at the moment and can't wait for them to leave so that I can have a go at this. Thank you!

Hi Anni, a lovely fellow and a fun idea. Instantly recoginised as one of yours even though its not your usual support. hoping that all is well in NZ for you.

Like it; don't trust the surface, though ... you wouldn't have thought there'd be enough key to it to hold the paint.... Still, as a decorative object, perhaps that's not the point - may help to put an acrylic varnish over the top and round the edges of the disk. Typical of me to worry away at the process and hardly to comment on the work at all....

Hi Christine, Thanks for looking and taking the time to comment. Coverage of the disc with paint isn't so easy and may take several coats. I did a gesso foundation to help. This is why I kept the painting rather simple. You must let each layer dry well or you could find the acrylic paint lifting off. Good luck. Kind regards ~ Anni

Hi Angela, Thanks for looking, yes a bit different from the usual boxed canvas. I must really do another blog entry to bring you up to date with happens in the deep south of New Zealand. I'll try and do that in a few days, so watch this space. I hope all your arty endeavours are going well and that you all had a good summer? What is your current project I wonder? Kind regards ~ Anni

Hello Robert, You are right not to trust the surface of a cd. I find it helpful to use a foundaation later of gesso, can even use two layers if your patinet enough. As I have said above several coats of paint are best, important to let each dry before applying another one. It is preferable to give a coat of varnish to coat the paint layer, acts as a sealant. A cd isn't the ideal surface for an artist but yes, this is only a decorative artwork and if rarely handled should be ok. Practicalities are important I agree. Thanks for looking and commenting. Hope your art is going well? ~ Kind regards Anni

Hi Anni, to reply to you....... Have been mainly working on seascapes lately, similar to my Clare Island picture. I dont seem to post them much as i have to rely on hubby to photograph and upload for me. I find that they have already been framed and gone out to an exhib or whatever before i get around to it.. I know that is really bad from a development viewpoint and often regret it when i sell something and have no record of it. Never mind, i am not a professional artist and dont really want the discipline which that would impose on my haphazard way of doing things. Everything in life seems so regimented, painting is my chance to escape , at least in my head...glad that things for you are on the up as it were. I suppose my main development has been working on a larger scale as a matter of course, and the larger works seem to sell faster for some reason?

Have you unwanted CDs at home? I did. Instead of throwing them away and creating more landfill, how about transforming them into works of art. This is what I did with this one. Coat with gesso and then paint with acylic paint. Cheers Anni www.annimorris.com
