Good textures Annie and a lovely painting. Do you prime the hardboard in any way?

David, thank you for your kind comment (got your name right this time :-) ) Carole, I think I used one layer of matt emulsion (which is probably sacriledge in these days of gesso being popular again), then a layer of white oil paint. I like to have a really good ground before starting to paint anything, I believe it helps the colours sing out. I used to paint a lot of murals ( hence me being used to using emulsion as a ground) !

That's lovely Annie, like the texture it adds to it.

Thanks Annie. Why not use emulsion I think it's roughly the same anyway. Water based acrylic emulsion, I've just painted my kitchen units in it. ( the one for wood of course) :)

Lovely detail Annie 💚

Thanks all. The recipient really liked it, I did it in a wooden frame painted with some of the same dark pink (dragged effect), with 10 matching greetings cards for her to send to her friends.

This is so pretty Annie, and I love the texture you have achieved on the leaves, just beautiful!

Beautiful, Annie.

This was commission painted for an 80th birthday. Unusually, instead of painting on canvas I painted it onto the back of hardboard. I found the rough texture of the board was very good for the rough leaves on the plant.
