Lovely detail, colours and textures Annie.

I love drawing shells; great shapes full of colour and texture; it a very striking picture.

Linda, thank you for your compliment. Brenda, nice to hear you also like shells as a subject. I have several in the studio, it could become an obsession!

Beautiful shells Annie, I have tried painting them and found it to be quite difficult, don't ask me why!!!! You have some great texture on the pebbles which look marvellous.

Great textures and colours.

Sandra, thank you for the complimentary remark. Margaret, I agree that shells can be tricky, they are actually pretty complex shapes. I have used a sponge to get the textures onto the pebbles and background, I find it a great tool and really easy to use.

What little gems you have here Annie, beautiful colours and shapes.

Just wondered if fine sprinkle of salt would work as a texture too for shells?

Carole, that's a really interesting question. I have only just found out about the salt effect and do want to try it. I know it will work with watercolour but this is acrylic so it could be a really interesting experiment.

Perhaps it won't work with acrylics Annie, don't think you could brush it off when the paint dried :))

I'm up for trying it one day with very watered down acrylic. Won't be painting for a couple of weeks due to arts trail then going away but let's see how I get on. It would be another technique to use if it works. Will let you know.

Acrylic on Board. This was started as a demo at an arts trail, then left in the studio for months. I was very pleased with myself when I finished it as another demo at the next arts trail. People were going home to paint shells so I like to think I inspired some people! I like the textures in these objects.
