Goes to show that you CAN achieve painterly qualities with acrylic - I knew Alan would like it as soon as I saw it: and so do I.

This has an underpainting of dark purple emulsion. I think a very dark base colour makes for an interesting start, especially when you are faced with a bright white canvas

I like the light in this, Annabel. I'm interested to know why you chose a purple ground - I'd never have thought of that and it's very effective but I don't know why - something to do with yellow and purple complementaries at a guess?

Caroline - i chose purple because it was there! I was looking in my collection of assorted match pots and found it. I tend to go for colours intuitively rather than rationally
