Well, I would expect this to win even if there were 50 other entries; the detail in the tree is beautifully done, and the sun-baked foreground is expertly conveyed by laying it down and then leaving it alone. (PS - for all I know, you might have laid half a dozen layers of paint down on that foreground, but the point is it LOOKS as though you just put it there, realized you'd got it, and left it.)

Thanks Robert.I did win after all and yes the foreground was applied with a palette knife very quickly and easily.

This painting was finished this morning.It,s my entry to the towns summer cultural week painting competition.There were only about five other entries when I got my blank canvas stamped on the registration day,so I,m fairly confident on winning.I,ll have to edit this later if I,m being too optamistic!
