I love your animal work Andrea, and this one is brilliant!

Both of your Lab portraits are superb - my last dog, or rather our last dog, she was more my then partner's than mine, was an Alsatian/German Shepherd. I drew her several times, but the emotional experience of trying to paint her, after she had died, was too much for me and I had to abandon it. You must bring strong emotions to those whose dogs you paint: while the closer you get to them the better, it's also true that you look at a really good painting of a pet and the sense of loss can be hard to handle. My mistake was trying to paint our dog - the better the painting got, in the sense of actually looking like her, the harder I found it to continue: and in the end, I just couldn't. I may try again one day - but I doubt I'll equal your skill in these paintings.

You certainly captured that beautiful lab character.
