Very recognizably the New Forest, which was one of my father's favourite haunts when he retired.

Oddly, it wasn't a very hot day. Rather warmer than today, mind.

At the top of the invitingly winding path in New Forest Heather 4, there was a plateau. On the plateau, there was a dead tree. It looked as if it had been blasted by lightning. The image - dead tree, vigorously growing heather and bracken, vivid blue sky - appealed. I took several photographs, and used two in the painting of this.
