A great painting very realistic, clouds are excellent. Once you start painting with a knife you won't want to go back to brushes.

Gorgeous view, briliant treatment. I'm a fan of painting knives, especially with oils (and not just because you scarcely need to bother with solvents :-) ). May I enquire after the size of this?

Fabulous view captured beautifully in your painting Alison.

Just beautiful, and my favourite place.

Hi all, thanks for your lovely comments. Amanda, sorry for the delay in replying. The canvas is approx 12" x 32", I like the width for seascape compositions but must admit I just love working on very large canvases. I sold a large painting of Orchy Falls in Scotland last year done in oils and used a knife to do a lot of the work on it. Absolutely fabulous effects. You can feel very intimidated by the sight of a palette knife and some oils and a large canvas but you've just got to go for it. Must try and post a pic of the Orchy Falls painting.

Another painting of the beautiful view I absolutely love. Started just using brushes but wasn't happy with the effect so carried on with a palette knife. What a difference it makes, got fantastic colour mixes.

I am a self taught artist and love painting with oils but have recently started using acrylics again. I mainly work from photographs taken from various places I have visited. I started painting around 10 years ago and must admit that often I don't really know what I'm doing. It is very much trial…
