thanks Gudrun I should imagine you like to try different ideas . it makes it more fun .. see the mountain at the back ,its pains grey with a little burnt umber over on the right it has a touch more umber did you notice, and the dirty yellow foreground is a mix of raw sienna with a little paynes grey its different isnt it .. and those dark trees are paynes grey and umber to get the almost black . have a go //.you can add a little prussian and cad yellow if you fancy a bit more variety in the foreground ta ta for now

Alan you must have a million and one recipes for paint mixes in your head....especially for trees. They always look right, whatever the mix.

Ilovely palette and composition Alan!

Fiona, you're absolutely right - Alan has a million mixes in his head, and will always try something new - and that's a lesson for all of us: learn, and experiment. Just look at the contrast between this painting and his "splash it on" work: you wouldn't even think it was the same painter, would you? That's what 60 plus years of experience can give you.
