The first time I saw this painting was on a biscuit-tin lid, and that must have been at least 50 years ago - it was probably the first painting I ever really looked at, and fascinated me back then, because we lived near the sea (indeed, I do now: all the things that went wrong with my life happened when I moved away from the sea, so I'm now quite superstitious on the subject..) I'm not at all sure it wasn't one of the things that got me interested in painting. This is a very good reproduction.

Interesting story Robert. I live in the centre of Brittany with access to sandy beaches north and south but a fair drive away. I've lived right by the sea too and I loved that fresh smell of seaweed etc. Thanks for your comment.
