Beautiful palette and a lovely composition, I'm sure this will be a very popular birthday gift!

Beautifully painted Mark (as usual), I love the limited palette. My only observation would be that perhaps the balance would have been improved with slightly less of the foreground water.

I disagree with the above. Less forground would lessen the impact of the mood light and reduced the feeling of "space". The picture couldn't be better and I envy your friends wife!

The composition is based on thirds (Golden Ratio...ish) and taking some off the bottom would bring the proportions too near to half-land, half-water which I try to avoid. However my original idea was to have some foreshore at the bottom of the picture which maybe would have addressed Bill Bowen's thoughts about there being too much foreground water. I decided on a simpler composition after starting the painting......
