Oil on stretched canvas. 30" x 20". These are the hills in the Overberg, the area between Caledon and Bredasdorp, Western Cape, South Africa. I wanted to depict the roughness of the stubble fields after the harvest.

Johann van der Merwe
I am a retired academic, trained as a designer. I've always dabbled in some form of art, but last year (2023) I decided "enough is enough" - I am going to paint in oils, however scary that seemed. Still need a lot of practice, though.
