Brilliant drawing, John, in my humble opinion. And Robin Hood's Bay is also brilliant, as an aside!
I see that you've made an adjustment - and our new member thinks the adjustment you've made was not the best .... well, that's what happens; you change something, get a bit happier with it, then someone comes along and doesn't care for the change - and down your self-confidence plummets again.   I say this without criticizing you or him - it's all a matter of taste and perception; when you have a quite precise drawing, there are those (and I'm one of them) who like that precision and sharpness to be maintained throughout - but "liking" varies so much between people that the answer has to be to do your own thing.. In a moment of weakness, I asked my landlord how I could sell more paintings - "paint what people like", he helpfully replied.  Truth is, I've long since given up on that as a way forward, because what people like is completely idiosyncratic - there's no pattern: all I know is that they're not keen on slag-heaps in full living colour..... but then, up will pop someone who loves precisely that. So there was no real answer to your earlier question/appeal for reactions - or no single one.  Fact is, you've produced an excellent drawing in a difficult medium, you could adjust and tweak it around the edges, but if you've said what you meant to, and done it so well, you've succeeded!
It's a very fine drawing John.  I would only attempt the oval shape on a pen and ink drawing such as this by using a faded edge oval shape in a digital program, as Robert suggested earlier.  Which of course means the final result would have to be a print.  It might have been possible manually had it been pencil or charcoal. As for the suggestion from the 'new member'...these days sadly, in self-defence, when I see a comment on a thread that's two weeks old, from a new member with no profile, no personal gallery, and only 1 forum post (on this thread), I assume it's the AI boys at it again.
Thank you all for your kind and helpful comments. They are all much appreciated. Robert, I completely understand what you're saying about any drawing not being to everyone's liking and I'm not concerned by the New Members comment. I accomplished what I set out to do and learned a lot in the process. That I'm not overly happy with the end result doesn't detract from the enjoyment of the journey. Thank you for your kind insights. Lewis, I have the skills and software to fade the edges digitally but, as I'm sure you'll appreciate, digital intervention wasn't on my radar .... skilful use of the pen was. Even before ink touched paper I doubted effective faded edges were achievable by me, but I will be trying again at some point. Given that you, with your skills, wouldn't attempt faded edges using pen and ink only serves to enforce the notion that it's harder than I first thought. As for the AI boys, you could well be right.

I think the added bits have given it a more finished look. Excellent work.
Thank you very much Skylar.
