Well actually the houses aren’t really that prominent as it happens… I was thinking orange roofs etc for some relief and a complimentary colour from the greens - but they are greyish…so, it is what it is! I would have perhaps made a more powerful statement using those tree bases, very dark and solid structures, with the lighter area behind…and include those houses - counterchange! Altogether though, no big issues with any of it… I often see things in a different light! No pun intended on this occasion…
Thanks Alan. I am leaving it for a few days and will try to go back if we get a day of similar sunlight etc.. I appreciate your help.
I find it warm, bright and giving me that feeling of a sharp spring day. Your treatment of shades of green are interesting, and I mean in a good way.  If I may, can I offer a thought on the 'houses' question and that is to say I find it actually surprisingly satisfying that they are not immediately obvious or of high contrast....I initially thought I wouldn't be satisfied with that...however I like that my eye wandered over to the right, led by the composition, and came back and 'discovered' the houses. I feel an obvious temptation would be to make them more of a feature than perhaps they are, but actually I don't think that has to be the right thing to do. I'm wondering if you are considering how strong the composition is and that it leads one so strongly to the right but perhaps so strongly there needs to be something visual to keep from going too easily off the right.....and whether that would give you an opportunity to consider a feature that stops or leads the eye back to the left, and 'balances' or starts a 'dialogue' with the houses.  Looking forward to what you think after a few days 'away'. Keep us posted.
Hi Gerry and thank you for your input. I like the idea that your eye wanders around and comes back to the houses. I feel they are not very obvious in the scene and I don’t think they should be. I don’t want to make them ‘pop’. I think this needs to be sent to Coventry and made to face the wall for a few days!
Well I left this for the week and took it back to art group this morning as the weather was similar. The sun was bright but in and out.  I have tried to pick up on some of Alan’s advice in particular, and that of Gerry.  I’ve put deeper tones in the foreground and am in the process of making the trees taller, also added in the landscape to the right, which I had ignored. I think it has now turned into a water meadow, but quite like that! Still work to do…
Looks wonderful Tessa, well done.
Thank you Denise. 🙂
It’s certainly coming on Tessa. The intro of that blue reminds me of the Impressionists.
Thanks Marjorie.
Great progress. Liking how dynamic it's becoming, with the stronger shadows, textures and values you are introducing. Confident scene. I like it. Well done.
Thank you Gerry. I’ve left it again for a while but will hopefully complete this week.
A big improvement Tessa, not too far away now I’d say!
