Fresh start, got the bug at present. Ref image from the excellent Ref Image Library in Wet Canvas. Initial drawing from an A4 image scaled up to a yellow ochre toned, done months and months ago, 40x 30cms DR canvas board when I was into oils using a palette knife.

Bit more work today. Blocked in areas with colours then developed some of them to near finished. Aiming to leave some of the base colour showing, as you do! Worked mainly on the bottom book. Couple of clumsy smudges need obliterating or made into something, maybe some birds flying past!!

Bit more work yesterday, probably none today. Worked on the mug and only concern is maybe the shadow side is too strong and not far enough round the cylinder to be correct. Easy to adjust methinks. Little tweaks on the books under it.

A great start Derek - see your point on the shadow on the cup, it's a bit on/off at the moment (maybe a mid tone in the foremost point might do it?) Anth

Computer been down so couldn't post this and did more painting so more steps achieved than I thought. Tweaked the mug, added more background, started the vase, fiddled with the books, prepared the base which is hopefully going to have a doily effect. Bit happier now.
