Right, hopefully I'll be working on my next piece. A black & white painting of Phil Campion & Rob Paxman boxing, which will be auctioned off in September at the next SAS Boxing Charity event vs the US SF!!! Just waiting on a pot of grey gesso then off I go. In the meantime here's the preparatory sketch which has been seen by a few people so far, just to give me an idea of proportions etc....
Ok, the grey gesso arrived last week and I started on my latest piece (along with the other one....!)
Shaping up nicely... Now you can see the need for a mid-grey background, your tonal values are so easy to see, impossible to work without that, well done so far.
AG, super start, bit confused here. 1st one shows sepia and grey tints (Gesso?) you could have coloured the gesso your self, then the rest are all grey. Looking forwardto a smashing knockout piece
Just a wee update on the Phil Campion and Rob Paxman painting. I do recommend looking BIG Phil up. Certainly is a character....
OK thanks AG.
Coming along very nicely AG - although I thought it was going to be entirely black and white. Alan, I now see what you mean about the grey gesso - certainly does make it easier.
You sound disappointed :) I am keeping the gloves coloured, but will be darkening them in the process.
I can see your point....I will put it to Phil and see what he says.
Worth waiting to find out Syd.
Keeping the colour. :)
Update here..... will be reworking the background beneath the arms to suit the top. Fairly good progress I think.
