It is on Daler Rowney Acrylic paper.  It saves all that gessoing.  I thing I might give it a bit of glazing on the bottom bit to make it more 3D.
Some very talented people here! I often wondered if it was worth starting multiple different paintings so while one is drying you can be working on another. The down time waiting for oil layers to dry was always frustrating when you want to be painting I found in my very limited experience!
Go for it JJ.  If you have more than one on the go, then you will not feel so precious about each one. Be prepared to make mistakes and learn from them.

This is driving me mad! Started it last week and , as usual, the beginning was going well. After altering various things, not least the black of the fireplace ( which is mine by the way), the honesty had to be altered. Aaaagh! Putting it away for now and starting something else.
Well Marjorie you certainly like a challenging subject! What a lovely fireplace, and I’m sure the honesty will come good when you’ve had a break and time to think it over.  I have the easy part, watching with interest!
Ha ha, thanks Tessa. That fireplace is original to the house ,1879, if we move I'll miss it. Been here 30 years , doesn't bear thinking about all the accumulated junk we've collected.

It looks fabulous as it is Marjorie 😀
I quite agree with Helen , It looks fabulous.
Is that Zeebrite, or dare I mention it....black *****?!  Marjorie, it’s wonderful...and original. Looks fabulous as it is by the way.
The painting looks wonderful and how lovely to have the original fireplace, it is very beautiful.
I had to look up Zebrite, though I guessed what it was. No, the whole fireplace is black. the cast iron bits are matt and the surround, not seen, is painted a bit like lacquer. The tricky bit is to not have the whole thing look a bit sombre - it doesn' t, in reality. So......( this is getting long-winded) I've tried to give the effect of light catching it. Mmmm . ,
