That does make sense!
blocked everything in. Ended up rushing the hoody today (my daughter has a sickness bug so didn't have much time) but hoping it will be fine for what I need to develop the next layer.
The thing you've got to watch there is fixing things and fixing things until you've managed to un-fix them.  But looking good so far; and yes that green really is better out of the way; any old underpainting will do, to be quite honest, unless - a big unless - you're overpainting in transparent layers, or semi-transparent, as they did (not all of them did) in th'old days.   I should qualify that - any old underpainting, provided you're using neutrals, earth colours, low-oil paint: you CAN use the bright bold and beautiful, but that takes a lot of experience and pre-planning.
Good point Robert about unfixing things - I do have a habit sometimes of over-working things. Although, my current habit involves starting things and then starting another thing and then another etc... I really do need to finish things more!
So I had planned to keep this portrait loose and expressive...and today, I go and spend 1.5 hours rendering an eye! Doh!
Tee hee .... welcome to the club; I'd bet we all do that sort of thing; I've got one on the easel which I'm determined to keep loose; bet I won't.
Thanks Robert - Glad I'm in such good company.
Latest Work in progress - about 5-6 hours of work in total since the last post and both eyes, a forehead and nose rendered in more detail now. This is going to take a while as I'm only getting a couple of hours painting in a day! And yes, it turns out that my nose is crooked and I have one much larger nostril in real life!
Barely noticeable nostril comparison. 🙂
