20 x 20in oil on MDF. Struggling for inspiration, and bored with painting local scenes, particularly as I can’t get out to paint. I’ve found some useful stuff in my Spanish sketch books from a year or so ago. These simple colour notes and scribbles will I hope, prove an invaluable source of inspiration during the coming months.  This is the start, the first stage, loose and expressive, that’s the way it’s staying, I hope, but anything can happen.  Hope it’s of some interest to a few of you!
Fantastic start Alan with those dark shadows already in place. What colours do you have on your palette?
Thanks Tessa, basically dregs left from my last painting! But the main framework of the buildings were drawn in with Old Holland Light Red. Ultramarine Blue was added to this for the dark shadows. It’s always important (for me), to establish the main structure and tonal balance from the outset, then I can start ‘fiddling’ - hope not! Thanks for showing some interest!
Always interested in decent oil paintings Alan, and look forward to following your progress.
Off to a great start Alan! Look forward to seeing progress.
Like the composition Alan, taking up almost a third of the canvas giving it a very imposing solidity. Keeping the rest fairly loose as is your intention,  will compliment the structure beautifully. Look forward to seeing the next instalment.
