Got started on one I've had on the back burner for a few years now, a scrap Thames Trader truck. First, a bit of history. We needed some building materials for our new house a few years ago and my dad, who used to be in the trade, recommended a guy he know - he had a farm fairly local to us that had the stuff we needed and, unbeknownst to me, a load of old scrap trucks, tractors and cars (and various other stuff). We got there and I was blown away! Loads of old trucks and tractors, car parts and various farm machinery as well as the materials I needed. The Thames Trader that I'm working on now grabbed me in particular. In general, I think it was the fact that all this stuff had been rotting away for decades, not two miles from where I lived for my first 40 years, that blew my mind. It's all gone now...Mr. Featherstone died a couple of years ago and I believe the place was cleared. So here's my tribute to him and his awe-inspiring collection of tat :) First, drew the scene out roughly: Then, blocked the sky, some of the foliage, and the shadow underneath the truck, in: There's a lot of foliage in this one, it's only 12" square and there's a lot of detail, so plan is to overpaint the various flora and fauna, building it up dark to light in the foreground. This one's a secondary work to the Mustangs painting I started tonight (to appear here soon), so may not progress quickly, but I feel like I've got a decent start. Anth.
Needed a break from Automatron, and also to give it time to dry, so raided the loft and found this one. Hadn’t been touched for over two years, but got a really good night on it. Hope to get some more done tomorrow and Saturday before returning to Automatron- this one needs to be allowed to dry thoroughly before I start building the foliage up over the truck.
Excellent stuff - a change is as good as a rest.  This is looking good - I think I remember your working on it a few years ago, and liking the composition.  Should be good, when finished!
Hard to believe it’s been sat neglected for over two years Robert! Several more in the loft that deserve some love once the latest one’s finished as well, should keep me busy for the rest of the year.
Got some more detail in on the truck tonight, as well as a start on the trees in the background - I find painting trees quite relaxing!
Started on the rust today - why do I love painting rust? Very strange. Anyway, going to have a bit more time on this one tonight then let it rest for a while.
I did a painting of a car and called it rust bucket, I really enjoyed mixing the variations of rust, it's such a great colour, I don't think my car was very good because I hadn't painted one before but I think I got it right with the rust. Your painting looks great.
Thanks Denise! Rust has always fascinated me for some reason, and I’ve owned plenty of rust buckets 😁 I’ve started on a series of scrapyard paintings, hope to get back onto those before too long. Is your car painting in the gallery? Will have to have a look.
Just looked - and it’s absolutely beautiful Denise! The way you’ve painted the rust gives it such realism, which is at odds with the style of your work but still holds together so well.
There is a rust bucket in my drive.  It used to be lovely restored red MGB, which my husband drove here from Wales, when he moved in with me.  It has only been out twice in the last 15 years, so it needs some one to restore it again.  Any offers?
Would love it Linda, but have my own rust bucket to get sorted out once lockdown’s over 😁
Back onto this one after a little rest - finished the truck tonight, including the shadows of the greenery surrounding it.
