My granddaughter had a brief holiday on Anglesey recently and she sent me this photo looking down to the lighthouse.
With a little inspiration from the recent selection of artists on the Forum, and some work on the Gallery I thought I would try a different style and method of working.
This is in oil on a panel approx 14 x 10”.
I started with an orange wash made of lemon yellow and cadmium red to remove the white surface. The drawing with brush is in a mix of UM blue and burnt sienna as I planned to keep some of these first lines showing through later.
I didn’t want this to be too literal but did want the white walls on the island to stand out.
I also changed the foreground to be looser and lead the eye into the main part of the painting.
And this is it. I think it’s finished. I’ve tried to repeat similar brush and knife marks throughout. Hope you like it! I’m about to put it on the gallery.
Thanks for looking.

Yes there is Tessa, a beacon of light maybe! I saw a beautiful photo last week of a local lighthouse with a fabulous reflection which has given me some ideas for some future projects.
I am Hoping to get some photos of said lighthouse next week as I will see It from a ferry on the way to Hoy! Like you I love seascapes, costal landscapes and boats! Hard not to when you live on an island!
