Hmmm at first I didn’t think so, but I saved your painting to my iPad and played with the colouring. To me it did look preferable when the greens became more yellow Ochre type green though not bright. I think the green you’ve used slightly overpowers the players being a stronger tone than their pale kit, and if you dull the background, this pushes them forward which I assume is what you want? I always think that when someone asks a specific question like this, they generally know the answer, just want it confirmed! Good subject and composition Jennifer. I miss the rugby and all sports.
Well Jennifer, there may well be, but the main issue here is your tones. Basically, they’re all very similar between the players and background. If you half close, or squint your eyes, you’ll see what I mean. You need to strengthen the players considerably, this will solve most of your problem, and also help to bring them more to the forefront. Once you’ve done that, the background greens may well be fine! Good luck!
I'm not sure what the background greens represent, Jennifer. I assumed they hinted at the pitch and background trees, given how far up the composition they come. Nevertheless, the players and action are very convincing. Nice work.
