“Can’t you paint anything else “ that is what I’ve heard from a couple of the family this week . The truth is I’m working in my comfort zone as I’m not able to concentrate that well at the moment , so it’s paint old lorries , car , tractor and boats or do nothing . Well doing nothing isn’t a option for me as I would be climbing the walls in no time at all , old problem of not been able to sit still and just read or watch tv. Need to get the grey matter working it’s know thst it’s doesn’t work too well anyway so can’t let it slip anymore.
This painting is A4 watercolour ( can’t be anything else as that’s all I ever use ), a Thornycroft truck that was converted to a timber tractor at some point .
The inspiration was from a online photo and I’ve taken the liberty to adjust the amount of damage and rust and added my own background.
Basic sketch and some of the base colours plus a start ob the detailing, I’m doing this one more detailed that the last one I did .

Paint what makes you happy Paul. I was accused of being a one-trick pony (drawing cars) for years, branched out to prove a point - then ended up back painting what made me happy.
Truck’s looking good so far, I love this era of heavy vehicle and look forward to seeing the rust creep across the picture :)

It has to be said, Paul - that one's not going to run again ... scrap value only.
Paint what you want to paint - my own return-to subject is trees: if in doubt, paint a tree has been my motto for years: if all you get is tree in my stuff, you know I've been stuck for inspiration.
Do you have a formula for rust? Mine is burnt sienna, ultramarine, plus a little yellow ochre or raw sienna, depending on tone; not that I paint it often, but that burnt sienna/ultra mix is one of the most useful I've ever discovered - way beyond rust, you can paint a whole picture with just those two colours - a useful tip for those who can't manage green (or just don't want to); though a better one is to practise mixing greens...
I've run on again......

now I have to give my two cents too, sorry...how many times did Mr Monet paint his water lilies? more than 250 paintings of just water lilies...maybe you can crack him? (just kidding)...no Paul, I admire your comfort zone, for me it would be an absolute war zone:) I have to stick with my little flowers...I know someone who has been creating small patterns of 250px by 250px in size in Photoshop for over 20 years, called patterns; and she still does it with the greatest passion; so I don't think there's any judgement, just a hat-off. Hopefully you have a fan because of the heat?
