Oh dear! That could be an issue here Linda - Robert will have more idea on this one though!
Gamblin cold wax may be the answer, it has various applications but is also used as a matte varnish.
It’s made from naturally white beeswax and Gamsol. I’ve varnished several paintings with it and I quite like it. It’s a rub on and buff off application - it comes in small 4.6oz plastic tubs.
It does claim that you can apply it after a short time, can’t recall but it might be a month or so. I’ve tested this on a scrap newish painting and no effects so far.
I initially bought mine to thicken up my oils where I was looking for a more impasto effect - it’s a great product for this.
