Here's where we were a few days ago. This was my first study, using Burnt Sienna and Ultramarine acrylic, plus a touch of white.  Hope I have retained the likeness, but there's a lot more work to do on it.
Yes, you've definitely got the likeness , I would know it was him. The tricky bit is to keep that, one slip of the brush....curses!!! But I know you know that.
It's usually around the mouth that you lose it, I find - and indeed yes: one slip is all it takes.

Fine start Robert, it’s progressing nicely...  It wouldn’t be a bad idea to switch to oils now, much easier to work with, well I think so. It’s probably because I like to work my colours into wet paint. Footnote: doesn’t he have one lens of his specs slightly milky looking?

Thanks for posting, Robert.  Just a few notes for contemplation.  Having his specs on, leaves the opportunity for reflections, which makes it more complicated, but more interesting.  He always wears a red tie, except at funerals and other such ceremonies.  Does his nose lean to one side?  Shirt collar looks a bit long.  I’m looking forward to seeing it develop.
The nose is certainly (in this version) slightly askew. And yes, he don't 'alf 'ave a long collar...... 
Actually, I see the collar points in the updated version have got even longer - well spotted!
I do regret not having gone into oils from the outset, but I don't like layering oil on acrylic - might start again with oil, though.  Certainly blending would be much easier. Still!  I think I can get away with this by using W & N Mixing White - and yes. one eye is a touch glaucoma'd - however, WIP, Alan; WIP..... we're not there yet...........
Looking forward to watching it develop Robert. Looking good so far. I have no doubt you will make a marvellous job of it.
Well Robert, we know that oils can be used without issues over acrylic, so I don’t see any reason not to do so (unless you know otherwise).  I do on occasion draw in my image and block in my darkest tones in acrylic first, although this would be a thin layer and I don’t do this very often! You’ve made a promising start, and have a good base here to work on... whichever route you take!

Really interested in this forum.   I used to use only acrylics and found I could blend quite easily as long as I worked v quickly.  Have now moved to an acrylic base along the lines Alan has said and then complete detail and move the painting along in oils often using many layers to build up flesh tones and hair  I also agree with Robert that I find if I don't get the mouth right then all is lost and it only takes one tiny slip of a hairline brush to do this!   I think you've really captured that certain look that Corbyn has so am very inerested to see the progression.
