Over the past week or so a very young tawny owl has spent time in the garden late evening and first thing in the morning. I have managed to get quite close , a very young owl that must be from a pate brood. The setting I have put hon in is not my garden I hasten to add . I always paint the eyes first ax it seems to bring the whole sketch to life .
And a bit more added I want to try and make it quite detailed, despite having to do it slow because of my hand problems at the moment. Photos from different distance.
Hi Dixie, this is fantastic, cannot wait to see how it develops.  Those eyes!!!
Thank you Carrie, I think the eyes are the thing to get right as it makes the owl look alive , when I’m painting it feels like in adding to the life that shows in then. Added some background decided to go for evening as that’s the time to see owls.
You are so right about the eyes Paul  if you get those right it all somehow works.  We have a rescue centre for owls a birds of prey close by.a great place to go and paint  This is one I painted for a grand child’s birthday card since then I have made it into cards for my animal rescue . Quite different from your lovely owl.  Mines a show off.
Jeeeze me and my bxxxxxxxxx in fingers… off my bum and out with the dog.  Love your owl Dixie .

It's good to see your owl developing Paul, can't wait for the finished painting. I like your owl Sylvia, it's very colourful, I hope it made a few bob for the animal rescue.
Thank you Sylvia and Denise , this will be the last one before it finally finished. Decided to add a bit of brickwork at the base.
Not BRICKS !  Looking good Paul.. what’s in that pot thing on a plate ,right hand side. Lunch ?

Sorry Sylvia, I forgot your aversion to bricks still not as many as Bari paints. . Not lunch its an old jam pot I use for water, like it better than a jar or plastic water container, plus I’m to tight to buy one . I’m pleased with the painting it seems to be coming together nicely and I’m enjoying doing it.
Thank you Paul…
