I like the light here Thomas ( but I’m a big fan of light). I would say, make it the focus….so emphasise the fall of the light as it comes down to the water. This will be the strongest part of the painting which will mean you have to tone down the movement elsewhere otherwise it will distract. Also, the water, as it becomes further away, will be less distinct re the brushstrokes. The brushstrokes should get smaller to convey the recession/distance. Take a look at Jenny Aitken’s work, she’s wonderful re the light, as is her book “Painting the light”.

That’s a pretty good attempt so well done! I didn’t give any suggestions earlier because Marjorie had already mentioned the main issues. Keep it going now…Thank you, I've got a lot of landscape photos to use so lots of practice attempts upcoming.
The light is certainly the star and it’s good to try different things.Indeed, and im hopeful this will help me be looser in my animal portraits.
