I decided I wanted a raven in front of a doorway looking into a crystal ball. I drew the basic shape in Adobe Illustrator so it would have some symmetry, also the archway.Rather over confidently I decided I could draw a raven without a proper reference. It looked okay in pencil but it's hard to see against the newsprint so I painted over the pencil with acrylic. HAHAHA looks like a fat seagull.
This is looking interesting Colette.  I look forward to seeing it develop. The raven looks good to me.  I know what you mean, I often think I can draw things without reference...wrongly.  I'm reminded of a time when my wife was drawing with our son when he was a nipper.  He told her her picture would look good with a dog in it.  I can't draw dogs, she said.  (She doesn't 'do' art.)  Yes you can, said my son, you've seen plenty of dogs.  Oh, the confidence of youth!
If it does not appear in the gallery you'll know it developed into the woodburner. I've started blocking it in and looking at pixabay for raven pics.  I don't know how you make all those people up Lewis, it's a fabulous thing you do. I did a character drawing course because I want to be able to invent people, I found it really difficult.
Best wishes with the raven Collette, I too will be interested to see it develop.
I really like the design Collette. Hope it works out.
Thanks folks. I finished it but I'll put the block in here anyway in case anyone is interested.
He's eyeing up that white ball and wondering whether it is friend or foe. I like the blue in his plumage.
