Background has got me stumped.
A strange subject... if you want an opinion why not just darken the whole background ?.
I was thinking of the opposite, but I don't have the experience or the skill to darken the background. I think it would be the obvious action so not sure yet. I'm not good at casting shadows or highlighting yet as I've only taken up painting recently.
Here is an earlier effort. What do you think
Welcome Michael. I'm sure someone will turn it the right way around for you. I'm not sure how to do it. I like what you have done so far and I think the bright background is very good. Shadows and the such just come with practising and trying things out. If you go to the techniques section on the site, there are all kinds of information and exercises to follow that will really help. Also the community videos are useful. They helped me a great deal when I started painting two years ago, I still use them as a source and also the members will help with any questions. I think you have made a good start. Keep at it.
Lovely vibrant colours, Michael, and you have an amazing collection of mugs.

What do you mean the right way around Denise :-) Any more turning and it will be downside up. Seriously though I'm in no way competent with today's tech. I just followed what I thought was right, but obviously not. My logic must be upside down from today's programmers. I would be happy if somebody would help get things the right way up or let me know how to do it.
Here you go Michael, when you photograph your work always edit the picture on your device you can turn it then if it needs it then press done
And the other. I would agree adding shadows would be good and Aldo darkening the background but it’s a great start Michael!

I've never heard of Aldo Darkening. Can you direct me to an example?
