Thank you dear friend for pointed tip. You are right, because there's no much work done yet, apart of blocking the interior with strong darks. The other parts of the face have fewer layers laid down already, where the ear hasn't been progressed yet. Pardon, today I did tone down the whole ear to put first tint over it - you can notice it while scrolling up and down this page, so you can compare the earlier photo to today's one - focus onto the ear, it's tonned down for first time today... More work obviously will be done. I'm too busy with shaping, modeling the whole face, so I left the ear unattended ... Please feel free not only suggest imperfections, but critique anything you will see it's off in your opinion dear Marjorie - I am always appreciate constructive critique, I believe this is the only way to improve our arts ;) Thank you!
I'm working on it nearly every single day, but even though I've got weird feeling I'm not doing any progress at all ;) I'm carry on layering additional skin tones, to build up the realistic effect. So the feeling is - two steps forward, then 5 backwards, lol ;) Like a drunk man really hahahaaa ;)

Art it’s coming together really well, best to take your time and be happy with it than rush and dislike what you have done.

Thank you for keen words Paul ;) I know, I know ;) - be patient  ;) This is my first try of doing self-portrait, first time on Claybord, first time with *real oils... I'm just learning/practicing while painting ... So it takes me longer to see progress, because I'm focused not to ruin this ;) Thanks a lot Paul for encouraging!
Some more improvements been done today. I was doing my best to improve shadows, and I made first attempt to settle the eye. No, no eyelashes yet, but I'm pretty happy with eyebrows...
Locking really good.
Thanks Paul for friendly support throughout! I'm very confused with today's update. I decided to glaze over some paint, to dimmer the very end corners, and make some kind of light source heading down the face... I'm very confused with this step. I do like it at some point, but at same time I don't... Well. I did call it an experiment, didn't I ?!  ;) Apart of messing with background, I was working on the ear, improving the eye, a bit of nose and lips too... Tinny bits, just kind of redefining...

As you know already, I was half/half regarding yesterday's background progress. I liked the direct light source idea, but the execution was really weird, poorly done. Plus the blue-ish sort of basic background was really annoying my eyes, not matching anything, and not being connected to the mood I wanted achieve... This is why I started dimming it yesterday, just to change it, cover up that weird blue colour, sort of desperate attempt to create some interesting atmosphere... So I took another risk today, to fix yesterday's mess up... Now the light source is represented by sort of steam... I like it now. Risk has paid off - I'd say  ;) Do you like it?
Well Art, I think it’s pretty well amazing, and the change of background is definitely better! Really well painted. Is it finished, that’s the question!? 🤔
Superb painting Art .

Thank you Tessa, that you complimented my efforts... I never was a *background man ;) , so I'm usually doing my best to sort of hit or miss ... Some time my effort is poorly done, other time looks more promising ;) Thank you. Not, it isn't finished yet. There's no any job done onto the beard, the ear - I just started working on, no eyelashes (it's probably quick job) - I've been improving the eyelid, therefore I left eyelashes to be the last... Thank you for kindness.
