I tried posting these in the gallery but they came out blurred and too small. From top to bottom there's The Big Lodge, The Bog Pond, The Perch Pond, Angling for Clouds, The Carp Pond. I really did enjoy painting them. They range in size from 60 x 50 cms to 30 x 20 cms.
I like the Perch Pond best, but they are all good
Thank you very much for dropping in to comment, Alan. Appreciated. I won't tell you which is my favourite but I do like The perch Pond. I managed to get a good photo with that one. I'll try to catch better photos of the first two tomorrow. I keep trying. *smile* Bri
Ha ha! The Carp Pond is my favourite too, Marjorie, but just by a nose. I do have a liking for our feathered friends and I think those kittiwakes are actually to blame LOL. And the cormorants, fulmars and a whole range of gulls. Garden birds are awesome when they are active during spring and early summer. It goes on. Bri
Thank you very much indeed, Tessa, Margaret, Anth and Lesley, for the warm and encouraging comments. I can't tell you how much it's appreciated. I'm so pleased you liked this series of paintings and particularly pleased that the reflections and serenity played their part. It's an unusual place because it's more or less surrounded by urban development, although there's a golf course to the east, which is also quite lovely. I found the different sizes interesting because the detail becomes trickier the smaller you get. BUT! I wanted to know which size I preferred and was hoping to discover if there was a "best size" for the subject. It turns out that all sizes have their merits, although the larger ones just seem to work better. There's not much to choose between 60 x 50 cms and 50 x 40 cms, but I think I'm favouring the latter, by a whisker. A lot would depend on the framing and the size of the room, I think. Anyway, I could drivel on for an age so I'll spare you my musings by simply saying, thanks again. Best to all Bri
These are all lovely Brian :)
Thanks you very much for the kind comments, Maggyn. Appreciated. Very pleased you liked. Bri
They are all lovely works, but the carp pond has life, with the addition of the birds.
Thank you very much Mia and Carol for the thumbs up. Appreciated. The Carp Pond is also my favourite, and I must say I'm tempted to return to the "Angling For Clouds" painting to place a few background birds into the scene. I'd resisted the temptation because I wanted the cloud reflections to be the focal point. Best to both Bri
I've just seen your comments, Alan, and don't know how I missed them. We must've cross-posted or something of the like. Sorry about that and thank you for the generous comments. It is genuinely appreciated. I hate it when I appear to have ignored a comment. Best Bri
Brian - sorry for not replying sooner . As an ex-angler of many years I can say you have evoked precious memories of sitting beside some lake or other ,taking in the natural beauty - the carp's mouth heading slowly towards me as if mocking , the instantaneous tourquoise flash as a kingfisher goes past , the cheeky robin which sits on my wellie boot before tucking into my maggots , coots cooting , tucking into my picnic whilst hoping not to have the inconvenience of actually catching a fish . Its all in there . Thank you . Steve
I don't know how on earth I missed these, but miss them I did. All great paintings and a good idea to make a series of studies like this.
