Well then, just watch this: and wish Alan all the best in his struggle with the teeth, with which many of us will be familiar. But all you need to know about watercolour is contained in this video - as always, it's the skies that get me with Alan's work; he does them so quickly, and leaves them .... and I for one just can't achieve the results he gets with such apparent ease. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6Vm9RBzTe0 Go and visit his site on Patreon, too - someone as generous with his time and expertise as Alan Owen needs all the support we can give.
If you really want to improve or make a start in watercolour Alan Owens watercolour videos are a must . just watch how he does things and you will learn a lot . He makes it look easyand it is ...for him. You can spend a lot of useful time watching his magic.....Syd
Quite a few have gone to Alan's YouTube page, though - I agree with you, they're missing out if they don't: especially if they want to learn how to paint skies.
I try to follow Alan's Youtube video's as much as possible. They certainly are very, very interesting and you can learn a lot by watching them. He is a great artist and teacher, explaining every detail and delivering stunning results. http://www.painters-online.co.uk/artist/MiaKetels
thank you guys for your comments the thing is I want beginners to join me in the exciting world of tonal values and not worry about how good a painter they are ,I am not interested in being a good artists ,but in the challenge of how distance and things around us look to our eyes ,,and maybe mention some past painters like Mr E Seago .
just a word the grey is winsor and newton paynes grey that is bit on the blue side with the slightest touch of winsor yellow deep,,, thanks for your being here,,,,,, oh I nearly forgot I have sent for some indigo may be a substitute for grey to get deep black .....not used it before though
Thanks Syd. I have most of those (except sap green) in pan form with my white knights already, but I take the point on tubes. I might start trying schmincke as per another thread. The mixing of colours is precisely my point...whilst I have dozens of WN pans on the go I havent really got a clue about mixing. D
