Here's a tip I would like to pass on to turn around a potential disaster. Having stretched the watercolour paper onto a backing with gummed tape, my finished picture covered the whole of the sheet up to the taped edges. I thought it would be nice to carefully remove the tape by gently soaking it with a sponge and scraping it off with a sharp blade. The result was a neat white margin framing the picture. Then disaster! The paper of course cockled right out of shape, with a creditable semblance to a contour model of the pennines.
Solution - I laid the picture face down on a flat surface and dampened the back with a water spray. I waited for the paper to go limp then laid a towel over it, covered with a board and piled heavy books on top. Success! The sheet is now perfectly flat. Any other tips for reverting disasters?
