But you really shouldn't miss it - a fantastic painting of an endangered loris, by the brilliant Pratim Das.
You'd like to be as good as Pratim? Well - work as hard, and you (and I) might stand a chance; his output is phenomenal - I couldn't begin to keep up with it, and I think this is one of his very special paintings.

Well... you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't, so I will carry on as I'm doing only commenting when I feel a painting deserves appreciation. I certainly appreciate any comments I receive, it really gives me great encouragement to carry on painting and not to think I'm 'hopeless'.

Craftyme, you carry on doing what you're doing. It's the expectation of thanks for comments to which I object. I get ... more puzzled than annoyed, when people who are asked a question (eg, on their technique and materials used) don't reply - I mean: why wouldn't you? But I don't expect to be thanked for a comment; I don't see a need for it; I don't think it's good manners, I think it's yielding to a convention which others might have tried to establish but which has no actual validity. We have no means of knowing why people don't respond, and quite honestly - what does it matter? Does it make any difference to the work?

When I first joined this site I did it because its aims seemed what I was looking for, ie a friendly community of art lovers who posted up their works, good bad and indifferent and enjoyed each others company on a regular basis. The gallery (the part of the site we are discussing) is just that and needs no deep debate because of its simplicity. The choice of commenting or no is totally optional not manadatory and at the choice of all posters. Like few people on here I am past the first flush of youth ( amongst which section most of the complimentary comments seem to occur) but (hopefully) I've never lost a sense of humour, the ability to laugh at myself or the principals I was brought up with. " Manners maketh the man, good manners cost nothing and if you seek respect, first show some to others" etc. I've had a somewhat colourful and far from perfect life and been everything from an altar boy to a night club doorman and security guard so I'm no Trappist monk, believe me. That said, If I can see something where someone is putting up something I like, then what does it cost to post a couple of lines saying so and making someone feel a little good about themselves? Even for me, a comparitive newcomer it seems to work okay. As a ( less than perfect) Catholic I also try to remember that Christianity lasts all year, not just a few days in December. A few good things thrown people's way hurts no one and costs naught. We get enough snowballs thrown at us in life as it is.....
