I'm definitely with you on this, Barney. It has an almost flash bulb effect. Not good.....
Oh, bliss!!!! They've gone again!!!! :-D I wonder for how long this time?
Even with tunnel vision they are a B***** distraction...I Hate them...Not to mention migraine triggers...
If it hurts you this much I recommend Firefox 3 http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/ with a dose of Adblock Plus (Once Firefox is installed open firefox, finish the wizard and in the top left toolbar click 'tools' and add-ons and in that search for 'adblock plus' install it and restart Firefox) or if you like Internet Explorer try IE pro http://www.ie7pro.com/ Also might I enquire if you are using the CRT (fat and bulky) or LCD ('flat screen') variant of monitor? CRT monitors are bad for eyestrain and give hurtful radiation.
Uses LCD...the above sounds at least one level past my computing confidence...
But they are still today...yippee...
Fangirl, I have IE7Pro and a flat screen monitor. They really don't help because as far as I know, these on-site ads can't be eliminated. They only work against pop-ups.
Sorry, forgot they were scripted ones =(. I've used Firefox with adblock with no problems so...
One slightly fidly and very low tech way of getting rid of them is to play around with the size of your window to just show the area you are working with. Unfortuately every time you go to a different area (say, changing topic in the forum) you will have to readjust. I use this method a lot since I had a small stroke which left me with a problem concentrating on text especially when surrounded by distractions.
Consider the easy option... Hold down Left Control (Ctrl) key and rotate your mouse-wheel...one way the characters on the screen become smaller the other way is larger...This should work for all Microsoft users...a RNIB tip that I use...I normally use screen at 200% to work on and 100% (normal) to find my way around... Alternative is for Vista users to click on bottom right for size options...
I guess the Artists' Publishing Company, who publish our enjoyable magazines and provide this excellent forum, work to maximize their income by selling advertising space on the "Painters on Line" web pages. No doubt advertisers pay not only for the space but possibly an extra premium for the type of display e.g. the flashing/constantly changing type that can be a bother to some. Perhaps without them the forum may not be viable? However, about a couple of weeks back I drew the administrators attention to the fact that clicking on the Rosemary and Co advert I got a blank page. That hasn't changed. Is it a problem with my computer? Or does anyone else have the same problem?
Think I've sussed out something. The adverts below the mast head rotate. Atelier,W&N, Rosemary and Co., ArtiFolk etc., may appear under Home, Features, Gallery, Blogs etc. It is only when any advert appears under Forum, that clicking on it results in a blank page. Of interest to Artists' Publishing Co. no doubt but not us - Sorry! I just like Rosemary and Co. brushes.
