Neither did I. Can you give some guidance as to where to find the article as it sounds like a good read!
There is a piece in the Times every so often where the 'experts' review a painting and also the 'non-experts' give their reactions. It is quite hilarious. Commenting on one painting which looked as if it has been done by a 3 year old let loose with a paint pot, the 'experts' were in raptures, whereas the saner division of the population made observations which had me falling about laughing (and in my opinion they were right!).
Sometimes I think it is a case of the emperor's suit of clothes!

Feb. '09 'Leisure Painter'...Today's Artist p47-49: Craig Wylie; in conversation with Robin Capon...found it...and reads it again...A pleasant conversation between two articulate artists, both of whom seem to have a good grasp of the English language and both use an extensive lexicon. Craig Wylie is a talented artist. Robin Capon is an academic, an artist, an author and Journalist...Be inspired by both of them perhaps?

Haven't read the article yet so I can't comment on the 'gobbledegook' in this instance. I do know what you mean though Tripod...too many within the art world in general seem to use dreadful flowery 'art speak' when plain English would be much better!
Have to say though, Mr Wylie is an extraordinary artist with great talent. Thanks for the link Ken.

"Paintings must be understood through the eyes, and that's not the word either. No writing, no talking, no singing, no dancing will explain them. they are final, the nth. degree of...whoopee of sight."
Charles Demuth. American artist 1883 - 1935 Precisionism movement...
So do we want a magazine of just images of artworks?
do we want only a feature of 39 steps to a finished artwork without any explanations of how to do it?
Perhaps any one magazine has to commercially appeal to all and offer something to all potential current and perhaps new readers?
Should there be say only feature acrylics in the Leisure Painter, after-all they too are easy to use?

Charles Demuth. American artist 1883 - 1935 a leading figure of the Precisionism art movement...
So these are the words of a true artist...
In simple summary then...only just look at the artwork...
Do we want an art magazine [many words including big words] to resemble a mere artworks catalogue [some simpler words] or perhaps some sort of artworks comic [fewer smaller words]?
I merely pose a question...

(?) Hey guys I have only just picked up my January issue really looking to the February issue...I know art has to be described and words such as juxtaposition can be a bit of a handful for a newby...I used to know what that word meant something to do with the way things or whatever are placed on the canvas or whatever...this can be either complimentary or not...is is somewhat pretentious and I thought it went out with the ark...I'm so looking forward to getting my February issue to read this article...In Oz we have a magazine called Artists Palette and within it is Lang's Gallery "for professional artists only." now I doubt that professional artists would have either the need or the time to look at this rather simple Mag...this offends and the email I wrote was never replied to bad mannered I say especially to a reader with out us they would be out of a job...still buy it though can't help it...waiting with baited breath
