Sad to discover that Alan died, aged 92, on Sunday 17th May.  He had many admirers in the world of watercolour and beyond, and was unfailingly helpful with advice.  A great admirer of  Ted Wesson, and Edward Seago, in particular, he kept their tradition of loose painting alive.
Sad to hear of his passing, very talented artist there are lots of his excellent paintings online definitely worth checking them out.  A couple I chose to add to this thread.
Oh, how sad, I liked Alan Owen very much and greatly appreciated his humorous and excellent YouTube tutorials. A truly fine person has left us.
Quite shocked to hear about this.  A greater age than I thought he was. Let him paint the hereafter as only he can.
He was so lovely - he really was; Alan wasn't really at ease with words, he didn't have that sort of education, so I was delighted to help him write an article for Leisure Painter.  He thanked me, not that I'd ever have asked him to, by sending  me some brushes - beautiful Winsor and Newton Sables, paints, canvas  stretchers, dvds, anything he could think of.   I'd have done anything for him, because I learned so much  from  him; I shall miss  our  telephone conversations and exchange of letters - in the last few years, he was exhausted, really worn out;  but STILL painted his watercolours, almost to the last day of his life.  He slipped  away comfortably, I'm told  - I really hope he did: I know he was very tired; I'll  never forget him - he was the gentlest, kindest, most natural watercolourist I've ever known.
I took your advice Paul and checked online, beautiful watercolour paintings. Very sad he is no longer with us given how those who knew him viewed him.
