Any information would be greatly appreaciated!
WHY won't artists sign their work properly, front and back?   And I wonder what OPA means, alongside the opaque signature - I think it may suggest something mass-produced....  Will have a scout around and see what I can find, and hope others here recognize it before I lose myself down a rabbit-hole.
Well, the  last bit was the quickest, which isn't to say it's right; OPA is likely to stand for Oil Painters of America, described (on the internet) as a prestigious body.  Unfortunately, that description was accompanied by an image which was anything BUT distinguised and owed everything to  the excessive use of the fan brush, a tool that has led many astray. If this was a  bit of luck, I fear I'm going to have a lot less with the artist's name - Oil Painters of America have over 3,500 members at the last count, and just suspecting a name starts with a "G" is not,  perhaps, likely to take us very far.  Still, I'll have a dive....
No luck; part of the  signature has been rubbed, and is unreadable.  I suggest you send a shot of the signature, and painting, to the OPA  - their website makes them seem quite approachable, who will have a much better chance of helping you with this.  Was the estate sale in the UK?  Interesting that you seem to have an American painting, but I emphasize "seem to have"  - there's many a slip in trying to identify paintings.
I am familiar with this OPA institute of artists, if institute is the right choice of words… governing body! Anyway, unlikely that anyone can read it, and as Robert rightly says, and we say it time and time again, add a clear signature and also write your name on the reverse - and a short description of the subject, because this has me baffled!
Thanks for the Effort, a few OPA members  are trying to track it down, but like you said, the signature has major issues! Will  post if they find anything out.  Thanks again!!
Sorry we couldn't be more helpful, but let us know if you would, if you're able to identify the artist eventually.
