Ok going to show my ignorance here, with pastel I frequently hear the comment that it takes layers well in relation to the tooth of the paper. Now I can understand lightly rubbing a pastel stick across a 'toothed' paper would in the basic physics of things leave deposits in the peaks of the paper, rather like dry brush work in watercolour. So presumably heavier pressure would deposit more pigment down into the hollows as the peaks are pressed flat by the application. How then is a lighter application placed on top since the peaks have been flattened by the heavier pressure, and what is the pigment going to stick to as the tooth has already been used. Puzzled of Tunbridge Wells...... you can tell I've not done any pastels :lol:
