Hello I have taken another one out of frame there is nothing else written on picture. They are textured not smooth as if someone had used a big roller to roll paint onto paper with maybe something on the paper to stop paint getting onto some parts of paper. We got them at a house clearance auction they were just stuck in corner half hidden. We bought them because we liked them only cost £15 for the 3 just want to know a bit more about them or the artist if possible if they were worth a fortune it would just be a bonus thanks Alan

I don't recall seeing the size, they look fairly large so that would probably rule out an etching or similar process, of which there are many, but etchings generally are fairly small in the main and would show an indent or impression in the paper round the edge of the work. So, it could be a screenprint in all probability, maybe a limited edition, but you haven't mentioned and numbers on the bottom margin. Limited or even open editions are usually signed by the artist in pencil, which it does appear to be. If it is an etching (whatever process is irrelevant), or a screenprint, these are categorised as originals due to the individual nature of the printing process. That's all I have I'm afraid, but if it is either of those techniques it will have more value than a lithograph, again that's not written in stone, but as a general rule.

You may be right on that score Sylvia, without seeing it we are in the dark, ten seconds of it in the flesh would give us an instant answer. Now I am interested to know, yes, the best idea is to pop into your local college, job done, well we hope so. I'd like 25%, my expensive lifestyle warrants it!.

Whatever they are Syd, intentional or scribble, if fatalfie would talk to us we could all be the wiser, I've got unanswered questions from days ago. I think I'm giving up on it, I've got better things to do with my time, we are all trying to help in some form or other but the lack of response from the author leaves me bored.

Hello sorry I have not replied earlier I was at auction house today the pictures were brought in by a house clearance company and were just put into a general clearance auction. They were described as 3 framed modern framed print estimate was £60 to 90 I got them for £15. I cant see any dots on them and the size of the actual pictures are approx. 25 x 35 inches.

The original question was not what are they, but who the artist might be - and all we've got to go on there is a scrawled signature (assuming it's that of the artist; it might not be) that starts with W and then could be anything - at a guess I'd say it was M Williams, but that's all it is; and it doesn't help because there are thousands of artists with the name of Williams, most of whom do not boast any great value at auction. So my advice would be to put 'em back in their frames and hang them and enjoy them: at the very least you've got something that probably few other people have got; and maybe one day their creator will be revealed. At first I thought they were metal plates, and was rather disappointed to discover they were works on paper ..... I haven't a clue what they are, but scribbles and all, they make a statement. Incidentally, this is a very good reason for ensuring that your name, and the date, are inscribed somewhere on your artworks.

Or Wilson? Or Welch/Welsh? You've got the 1975 date, it should be possible - theoretically, and isn't theory wonderful? - to look up artists active in the 70's whose initials were M W .... and see if any of their work resembles this in any way.
