Firstly, so as not to appear rude...hello everyone!  Been a while since i was on and much has happened.  Redundant not once, not twice but THRICE since september 2019.  Started a small business, doing ok, not great but ok.  Family all good thankfuly and so life goes on! Now i wish to cut some mounts to pop round some paintings I have -  watercolours, cA4 size -  and i dont want to spend a fortune at the local framers.  Well, haven't got a fortune. I have googled frame cutters and they run from a tenner to a grand...so which will do the biz please? Dont mind second hand if thats a better way to go. Thanks all...hope you're all well. David
Hi again David! I’ve tried quite a few mount cutters over the decades, and without doubt consider the Logan hand held bevel cutter to be the best. Buy the one with the 500mm straight edge included, the cutter runs in a channel and is brilliant as well as fast and accurate! I’ve cut hundreds of mounts with mine, make sure you buy the Logan blades though, not the unbranded ones. I’ve just checked and it’s called the Logan Team System.

I can also recommend the Logan mount cutter as described above, been using mine for about fifteen years and never had a problem with it. There are also extra gadgets you can get to cut oval/circular mounts, I don’t have these so can’t comment on their usefulness. It comes with a dvd to guide you through cutting a basic mount....or it did come with one. Lovely to see you on the forum again David.
Thanks both.  I shall do that. David
I also use Logan mount cutter, although I went for the slightly more expensive version. I also use the oval mount cutter, this can also cut circles, comes in handy.
Hi David, welcome back i am also a returning  member. Agree with everyone, the Logan mount cutter system is really good and well made. I have used mine for years. Saves a fortune on framing your work.
There we go then! The Logan is really popular and deservedly so. I’ve got the one with the measuring device which saves time, just set your measurements and run it along the cut out mountboard, although this isn’t an essential.
Thanks.  Ordered one!
I bought the Logan Team System and today cut my first mount...what a piece of cake that was!  An excellent little bit of kit. Thanks for the advice.
Great stuff David, I did say they were good! You can cut on one of those green graphic mats, but I find that a scrap piece of mount board underneath is the best idea. The blade, if it’s set at the correct distance, should just very slightly cut into this underneath card. I did mention this before, but only buy Logan blades, the other unbranded ones are useless!
Thanks Alan, I shall heed your advice
The other thing with Logan mount cutters is you can buy a glass cutting tool , so you can cut glass using the same method as you would your mounts,
