Hi! Does anyone know whether Adolf Hitler painted watercolour landscapes when he was a soldier at the front line in Ypres during WW I? How did he sign his work then? And what are they worth these days? Many thanks for any advice.
There are a few in the forum that might be able to help, but just in case, you could try - Axis history forum.com. All the best with your search.
This link will give you an idea https://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/jun/21/hitlers-art-of-flowers-and-fairytale-castles-sells-for-280000-at-auction Apparently if the Vienna Academy had accepted his application to study art the world might have been spared a dictator https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paintings_by_Adolf_Hitler
I do remember seeing a programme some time ago about his watercolours, and I do recall that they were fairly mundane landscapes in the main. I think that he produced some 3000 or so during his lifetime but I've never actually seen any come up at auction so no idea of their value or who in fact owns them.
