Dulux emulsion instead of gesso on MDF?

Very interesting debate.  I found the Jacksons article Alan mentioned at   https://www.jacksonsart.com/blog/2018/08/04/priming-your-canvas-with-house-paint/ and it gives food for thought about using an emulsion as a primer.  And Robert's comments about never knowing whether a painting is going to turn out to be a triumph or not and the thinning of gesso also struck a chord.  People will make their own minds up and if it hasn't caused a problem in the past then they will probably continue as this has been their experience.  For myself I think perhaps it was a mistake to use the emulsion on such a large board 4' x 2' as completing the painting will take a lot of time and paint and I certainly would hate it to become one of my best and then find there was a problem!
