This picture was bought by my father in the 70's possibly from a gallery in Falmouth. Any assistance to identify the artist would be appreciated.
No idea unfortunately, apart from the obvious David Haull or Howell, and presumably you’ve done all the Google searches etc. It’s painted by an amateur hand, quite proficiently, so he won’t be a listed artist, and of course there are millions of such amateur artists out there. The chances of anyone on here recognising this artists work is remote but not impossible!

Google picks up a David Faull and there are images of two signed paintings, where the signature looks like David Ffaull.  One of them has different flourishes under the name (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/144250689752?hash=item219602d8d8:g:7YwAAOSwqzNg4eSz), the other looks a little more like the signature on your painting (https://twitter.com/EverRotating/status/1222306506407841795/photo/1).  You need to Google 'David Faull artist'.  There is a link to another painting, no image, sold by an auction house - it's more in the pick up a bargain rather than make a fortune category!  Not definitive by a long way, but it may be a starting point.  Possible active in Cornwall, twentieth century.
Alan , I've often pondered on this - what does one have to do to become listed ? i.e. to make the leap from amateur to " recognised " ? .  e.g. would selling a painting at an auction get oneself  listed somewhere .... just wondering . Stephen Weight
The painting I mentioned that sold at auction, sold for £2.  Certainly a bargain if the work shown above is by the same artist, but I doubt that it would get anybody listed!
oops fat fingers made a second post.

Yes Stephen, usually through the larger established auction houses may get you noticed and recorded, and membership of professional organisations such as RWS, RA, ROI, NEAC etc. goes some way also. But not necessarily any of these! ARTPRICE for instance record many larger auction house results, and will enter them into their database, a subscription is required to access the artists’ profile and previously sold prices. I do have a subscription so I can instantly check to see if an artist is listed. Pre internet days, there was a huge volume of ‘Who’s Who’ in the art world, updated yearly I believe. Expensive but available in libraries. It may well still be printed every year, but doubtful.

Just to say - yes, probably not a professional painter, but: it has great charm nonetheless, and I'd be very happy with this hanging on my wall.  The signature is infuriating though - it looks so clear and easy to read, but when you come right down to it - it isn't at all easy to read!  Hurll, Huall, Ffluell, and I can't find anyone whose signature looks anything like it. Still - you have a very respectable watercolour there, and I hope you continue to enjoy it.
Thank you everyone for your input (especially tony). I think this conundrum may have been finally solved.
Alan          thanks for your comment re Artprice etc , much appreciated . Stephen Weight
The artist is David Faull (1920 - 2010). He was my great uncle.  I have a number of his paintings. He was a prolific painter and have come across a few his paintings for sale over the years.
Great to have the right attribution - it may take a while, but the combined efforts of all here and, in this case, a close relative, come through eventually. Good to see this very charming watercolour again.
