The last few postings of mine have included the mount. See: http://www.painters-online.co.uk/gallery/art-view,picture_148179.htm This means i don't have to crop the mucky bits from the edges and I often think a mount sets off the painting. There are some occasions, as with my line drawings, where I feel the mount and sometines even the frame is so intrinsically part of the painting that it is necessary to include it. However, I recognise that many paintings do not have mounts and others may be painted within tight boundaries (using masking tape etc), and, in any case, to include a mount means the size of the thumbnail in the gallery is reduced. I suppose there is no rule one way or the other but I just wondered if anyone has any particular thoughts on this.

I do understand what you are saying and I have no objection to these small abstracts being displayed in a mount, in fact, I agree with you that it can enhance ones work, as I believe that it does in this instance. Generally speaking, I am of course only interested in the work itself, so from my perspective I would prefer to see just that. I am just in the process of revamping an illustrated book for an artist that I know well, many of his paintings have been displayed showing the frames. This is a definite no, they look awful, and you can never get them to look square, so I am taking all these out and having them photographed again, which will be a major improvement.
Your link via an iPad does not lead to your gallery...some sort of summary page...including phone numbers?
Alan - yes I must agree that when including the mount the photo has to be taken from some distance away to minimise distortion which can be a pain. 197 - sorry about that - it works on my desk top and don't know why you are having this problem - perhaps one of our techy types may be able to advise.
On the whole, I don't show the mount or frame when photographing and posting work - there's no doubt that any watercolour in a gallery or on your wall looks better in a mount, and under glass, and in a frame: but for practical reasons which are obvious, you wouldn't show them here like that. On the whole, I prefer to see pictures unframed and unmounted on the Gallery - I think I've shown frames twice, when it was too late to separate the work from the frame: and on one occasion, the frame got more comments than the painting did, so I won't be doing that again....
I think picture presentation is a big part of showing work. I like your small simple things shown in their mounts and frames they work . But I also prefer no mount or frame shown generally here in the gallery. Though for display on a wall for exhibition or just hanging purposes a nice clean mount and simple frame for a water colour and well chosen plain frames for canvas work. I cringe when I go to an exhibition and someone has been determined to use a frame already in their ownership. You can almost always tell when paintings are shoved in a frame with no thought ,squashed and bits chopped off .
