Today i received an email back off Syds old art society, where they have all been remembering him fondly after my email, one member did confirm what we what we all have feared. It's so sad. As Syd was a lovely presence here who was a friend to lots, and will be missed dearly, I thought it would be nice to do a little challenge dedicated to him. I was going to suggest doing one of his old challenges he set out, but I think he deserves something that screams Syd. So how about his other passion Model Trains?
So sad to read about Syd, Jen. Thank you for letting us know. This is a lovely pen and wash. Will you post it on the gallery and call it "Remembering Syd's Challenge" so that members who do not read the Forum also can take part? I always entered his challenges and I certainly will give this one a try.
So sorry to hear about Sid. Didn't know him very well but I'll say a prayer for his soul. He' s sure to be sketching out there somewhere. R.I.P.
Nice idea - I would cheat, and post a train painting I did at school around 60 years ago: but I can't find it! I didn't think it was too bad, but you'll have to take my word for that. Syd wouldn't have done.... He'd have demanded proof.. Painting has taken a back seat for several months now, of necessity, but I hope people will take up this challenge in Syd's memory. Rest in peace, mate: we're all missing you.
I've just posted one up I knocked out quickly when I saw Jennifers challenge. . R.I.P Syd. .
A lovely idea, Jen. And a marvellous image to start us off. An elderly member of our small art group passed away, I've composed a small poem as a tribute, so I might do the same for, Syd. We loved Syd for his open frankness, and I must say he was one awesome bloke.

RIP Syd. His spikey and well directed input will be sadly missed on here. Not sure about trains as a subject though, will have to think about that.
This is my tribute to Syd. It's in the gallery, but I wanted to put it up here too because this is where Syd mainly dwelt.
I didn't know Syd well, but I did know him. It's always sad when a friend and fellow enthusiast dies but it's good to know how much he was valued and how much he will be missed. I've never painted a train before but I'll give it a bash, raise my hat and blame Jen and Syd if it turns out to be less than the Flying Scotsman. Bri
This is my homage to Syd. He always was ready to challenge us and I am certain that he would have enjoyed this challenge. I also posted it in the Gallery.
In an effort to help out with remembering Syd, I asked our friends at British Railway Modelling magazine to send a few photos of model railways for inspiration. You can see them here https://www.painters-online.co.uk/gallery/trains.htm
