A friend has just asked me if there are any copyright free photos available on the web and I recall that there used to be a section on POL where photos could be posted for others to use if they were short of ideas. However I can't seem to find them on the new site - do they still exist or am I not looking properly?

There's also a Facebook page entitled Photos for Artists - I think there's more than one, in fact. One was started by Jan Szymczuk (there may be an extra z or two in there, or possibly not enough) of the painting challenge programme ...er... fame.
Always to be borne in mind is the undoubted fact that a good photograph can make for a rotten painting, because of the tendency to copy it too rigidly; never wise, because you get completely misled by the colours and tones, which is why your own photos, plus sketches, are best.
But I realize not everyone is able to get out and find new subjects.
