I'm of your opinion Cordelia.

Thank you Sandra, it often seems that many of us put in lots of time and effort that is just not recognised. I just can't imagine that most of us would want to have the winning entry on our walls!
I can see John getting quite a few requests about the mysterious thing he greatly misses, I've sent him one too! And yes Robert you are FAR too young to die (I'm five years older and I'm FAR too young to die!)
Where are these competitions? I can't see anything - I don't want to enter, I'm just curious. I agree with Cordelia about that painting!
They’re on the main menu under competitions Peter… there aren’t very many these days but they used to be in abundance during Dawn’s era! I believe that you have to be a paid up member of Studio Plus, or whatever it’s called, in order to enter! I’m not absolutely certain about that mind you. Update: just checked and the competition heading is no longer on the main headings… I wonder why that is?

They seem to have disappeared from the drop down menu just recently. We did have an email giving details of a new competition to paint an inspirational lady, so maybe just a change of method to update us of such things and perhaps encourage more to take part.

Totally agree. Competitions are all the same now, I'm thinking about getting my 3 year old grandson to do me a painting and I'll enter that one 😂
No, competitions aren’t all the same. I’ve had some happy experiences with competitions….you just have to choose your competitions. And when you’ve done that, you accept the judges’ decision and move on. David Curtis, with his advice on entering competitions, says “ do your best” and have confidence that you’ve done so. Like an interview, you may come out not having got the job but if you feel you’ve done the best you can then that’s ok. I like entering competitions, it makes me think, but there are some competitions which wouldn’t suit me and I wouldn’t enter them ( Jackson’s is one). Just like choosing a gallery which suits your style of art…..
Competitions haven't been on the header for a while, it was changed to 'win' and that disappeared a while back. Maybe this is why we have to tolerate the drop-down boxes we all found irritating.
Yes, I’ve noticed that these headers are now gone! It’s a pity TALP in conjunction with Patchings will not be running again this year, an annual pilgrimage for many of the members - Marjorie being one of those who made quite a long trip to enjoy the event. Submissions were well over a thousand apparently, so a lot of artists will be disappointed… perhaps it will make an appearance next year! It gave me something to work towards, a meaningful deadline even, and I like to think it bought out the best in my work (yes, that’s subjective)… but I’ve enjoyed a fair amount of success over the years, same for Marjorie as well with awards and prizes!
I was often quite tempted to enter the TALP, but when I seen how skilled the artists were, I had second thoughts. In my early days of painting I did send competition pieces by post to the Leisure Painter magazine then it went digital, great fun either way, can't remember winning anything, but did have a few art materials when sending in letters. Haven't seen letters in the past few issues. Things do change, and I suppose we have to go with these changes.

Sad loss, the letters page.
Definitely.
